Angela Shi

Articling Student (2025/26)

I am excited to begin my career at Hunter Legal LLP.  After working as a summer student with the firm in 2024, I am returning to the University of Toronto for my final year of law school.  I look forward to returning to the firm in August 2025 to commence my articling year.

My passion for effective and meaningful advocacy drives my interest in labour and employment law, where I aim to find solutions that benefit all parties involved.

This past year, I was a finalist in the competitive Callaghan Moot, where I represented the government and crafted arguments that balanced state interests against equitable concerns. I have also participated in Trial Advocacy in my first and second years of law school, gaining valuable experience conducting examinations and refining my oral argumentation skills.

While at law school, I volunteered with the Asper Centre’s “Consent & the Constitution” working group, where I simplified complex Supreme Court cases for public legal education materials. I am also an editor for the U of T Law Research Symposium which draws submissions from law schools across Canada.

Before law school, I majored in Music at Queen’s University, where I honed my ability to perform under pressure through numerous public performances. I later obtained a Master’s in Cultural Studies from Queen’s, where my thesis concerned the politics of care work and the gendered dimensions of time use. I also hold an ARCT in Piano Performance.

In my free time, I am a huge fan of Pilates, long walks, jigsaw puzzles and NYT crosswords. I am fluent in English and Mandarin.
